Self Talk Counseling & Consulting, PLLC is a private practice founded to provide year-long support for first responders and the community through counseling, seminars, and workshops. These interventions are designed to improve self-awareness and confidence for all participants. We assess and treat trauma, mental health and substance use disorders with a holistic approach to wellness and healing.
Kareem Puranda is the Clinical Director of STCC. He is a Board Certified, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). He is a natural at helping people work through the delicate and uncomfortable conditions of their life's journey. Kareem realized his greatest joy came from inspiring underserved youth to be great despite their circumstances. He has vast experience working with law enforcement officers, first responders, first-time offenders, adolescents, outpatient & residential treatment programs and multicultural populations. Kareem uses integrative approaches to meet clients where they are. His philosophy and approach invite clients to think outside the box. He is an empathic counselor who views every client with an unconditional positive regard. Julius Benford was born and raised in Denver, CO. He attended Bethune-Cookman College where he pursued a degree in Education before ultimately completing his Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Pfeiffer University. Julius has spent his career largely working with children in the Education System. It is this experience that helped him to identify an interest in becoming a Therapist. Julius is currently working on his MS in Clinical Mental Health with a targeted graduation in Spring 2022. His practicing methodologies for counseling are: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness Counseling and Motivational Interviewing. His focus is on family therapy and adolescents. Kristina is a native of Charlotte, NC. She is a graduate of HU and UNCC. Kristina holds an LCSWA and LCASA and anticipates full licensure by October 2021. Her career spans over 20 years working with the homeless, substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental health populations. Kristina’s greatest quote is “If you are not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem”. She uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to help people identify their strengths, be accountable for their decisions, and assistance them in living a better quality of life. Kristina's solid experience, accompanied with her compassion, empathy and great listening skills, has allowed her to help many people get through difficult situations and empowered them to live their best life.
